Produced in Japan in wood-fired kilns in which the pots are stacked along with straw that is high in silica content. Its combustion causes fire markings, and ashes from the fire may also create glazed areas. Traditionally used in Japan to create ware for the tea ceremony, modifications of the technique are now popular with potters elsewhere. |
