Using Paper Resist

Applying a pattern of thin damp paper to the leather-hard surface of a pot allows contrasting slip to be painted over the top. When the slip is dry, the paper "resist" can be removed, leaving a sharp-edged design behind. This technique of paper resist is also used with glazed ware.
